Good Day!
It’s officially been 2 months that I’ve been living in Trinidad there’s been ups, downs, and life lessons. Here’s my little update from the last 2 months.
Working at the Trinbago 2023 Youth Commonwealth Games has been quite eventful. The work and culture of this environment took some getting used to but with the help of the other interns at CYG it’s starting to feel like home. Originally this placement was supposed to be 4 months but I very excited to announce that I will be staying until the Games in August. Now that I’m staying I have been given my own responsibilities which is very exciting.
As for my adventures, I have been quite busy getting to know the country’s nature and culture. I have been fortunate to experience carnival fetes, take many hikes, go surfing with my new friends and explore both islands.
Surfing Las Cuevas
In January I was connected with a man I call now surf guru Greg. He took me SURFING! I surf back home in Canada so I was very excited to get as chance to surf here. The days we went the waves were small but I was so happy to get in the water I honestly didn’t mind.
Making Friends
To me whether I was here for 4 months or all the way to the Games I knew that for me to be successful, I needed to create a life here beyond my SportWORKS Officer position. I got connected to an international student from the University of the West Indies and found my first group of friends. Having a group of people living through similar experiences has been so helpful in creating a home for myself here. We also contently have similar schedules and drive to experience everything this nation has to offer before we leave and so we have has some pretty cool adventures.
As always thanks for checking in on the adventure
Have a great day and I’ll catch ya later
