Hello, everyone!
My name is Lindsay Lehr, I am one of the new SportWORKS Officers living in Botswana this Fall. Adriane, Lindee, and I have been here for over a month now and I think it’s safe to say we’re finally settling in! The Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) has tasked us with revising the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) Programs currently in place for 11 sports in Botswana.
As we’ve maneuvered through the first third of our internship, I’ve been consistently reminding myself of the SportWORKS tagline: “Making a Difference and Becoming Different.” How have we been contributing to this? What more can we do?
During our down time at the office, we identified other skills and strengths within our student group. Adriane has extensive social media marketing and event planning knowledge. I have graphic design and web design experience. Lindee is passionate about LTAD frameworks and organization. With this information, we compiled an action plan and presented it to our supervisors. We explained to them that we would be more than happy to assist in other areas (on top of our LTAD assignments), and that we want to make a significant impact while we’re here.
Needless to say, the entire committee was thrilled to hear of our enthusiasm and determination to help. We have since been working closely with the marketing team and have been hard at work with our multiple projects.
On top of everything we’re doing at the office, Adriane and I managed to slip away to Cape Town for a mini-vacation! We went paragliding, hiking, swimming, shopping, and had a great time getting to know each other while experiencing more of this big beautiful continent.
Fewf! What a crazy first month! I can’t wait to see what more is in store for us!
