Hi everyone,
I can’t believe it’s June, and it’s almost been a month since I arrived. Slowly but surely things are starting to pickup here. I’ve started securing weekly rugby sessions with a few of the schools around the islands including Raymond Gardiner High School on North Caicos every Saturday after the Youth Tag Rugby (more about this later), and starting this Friday at British West Indies Collegiate and next Tuesday at Enid Capron Primary School. I’m really excited to get out there and starting further rugby sessions. It’s been a little difficult at the start with the schools in exams right now but we’re getting some of them on board!
Saturday mornings are the Youth Tag Rugby sessions at Meridian Field, the past couple have just been tag games and drills but this past Saturday we started our Youth Tag League, with several teams named after nations competing in the Olympics this summer. The turnout is incredible with kids coming from all around the island. It should be an exciting next couple of weeks, interested to see which team wins.
Also coming up in June we have our Inter High School Tag Rugby Tournament, which is starting to come together. With a few teams from the different islands already committed to participate, I’ll be sure to follow up on this once the event is finished! Finally, every Tuesday night is beach rugby, it’s a lot of fun and great to see so many people out for a friendly game of touch. Looking forward to the next several weeks at what June has to offer in TCI. Also, look out for more information on some projects I’m working on in the coming weeks!
Talk soon,
Caity
