Hello!
It has been 3 weeks since I arrived here in Gabs and I can’t believe where time has gone. The 36 hours of travel to get here went well with the exception of a few delays in Toronto and Frankfurt. I came prepared for the heat, but the “cold” 25 degrees I arrived to has made me wonder what summer will be like. What I didn’t expect to miss so much is clouds. All but 2 days I have been here have had clear, sunny skies all day.
After a few days of rest, it was time to start work on the evaluation of the Botswana Long-Term Athlete Development Model. Over the coming months we will be looking at the work of previous interns and making adjustments based on the current situation in the National Federations. We have our work cut out for us as there are 11 sports to work with. Currently we are reviewing the frameworks so we can begin interviews with key stakeholders in the coming weeks.
We also managed to climb Kgale Hill. The view from the top was breathtaking, it sure made up for the heat that we hiked in. When we arrived back at the bottom we were greeted by a group of baboons. We are yet to see much African wildlife, although there are cows everywhere here. Farmers just let their cows roam, even into the city. I am curious about what they eat as it is just dust everywhere.
I can’t wait to start exploring outside of Gabs in the coming weeks.
