As my role as a Sport Development Officer for TCIRFU has come to end, I am feeling blessed for all I have learned and experienced throughout this internship.
I am very thankful for my supervisor, Mr. Keith Burant. I worked out of his office at the Meridian Financial Group with a great team of staff. I lived in a great two-storey townhome he arranged for me, and I drove the infamous rugby van all around Provo (known to all who know rugby on island). It was a neat experience driving on the opposite side of the road that’s for sure! I had a great time coaching and playing rugby at the Meridian Field which is the greenest in the Caribbean. I am also grateful for all the friends, students, and teachers I have met throughout this experience. Who knows, maybe I will even come back to be a physical education teacher at a primary school. Not only were the people great, so was the food. Providenciales is a very friendly island with many cafes and restaurants to frequent. My tastebuds were always discovering something delicious and new.
The work I have done here is a big accomplishment for myself. I am proud of how well the Inter-School Rugby Tournaments went with 9 high schools and 6 primary schools participating (150 students). I hope I can come back and visit in February for the next scheduled tournament which will be facilitated by students from a Brock University field course.
Lastly, my final project was organizing youth summer camps at various locations. It was three weeks of success. Now it’s time for the students to take a break and for me to head back to Canada and get on the ice for hockey camp.
Bye Bye TCI!!! It’s been a slice.
