On January 21st, 2016 I was honored with representing the sport of rugby in Turks and Caicos at the Turks and Caicos Islands Sport Commission meeting. Through this meeting I had the opportunity to meet more than 20 representatives from a variety of different sports in Turks and Caicos, all with the passion for improving sports in Turks and Caicos. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss issues, opportunities, and strategies to help develop Turks and Caicos national sport strategy. The discussions involved sport participation and active living, competitive and high performance sport, event hosting and sport facilities, and roles and responsibilities of certain organizations in the country.
The ability to represent the sport of rugby in Turks and Caicos at such an important meeting was a huge learning opportunity for myself. I was able to see and understand current issues facing sports on much larger scale. I got to hear the opinions of people that have been in the industry for a long time and witness the passion they have for sports in their country. I was also given the opportunity to apply what i have learned at Brock University for the last four years.
I can honestly say that I am proud to be a Brock Badger. Thanks to my amazing professors and the program of Sport Management I was able to use what i know to make a difference. My professors have truly prepared me for a future in sport.
