Our first session of the Leaders in Training runoff program Sport Values 4 Life program is complete. The first 5 days consisted of teaching them about:
- The role of a coach
- Safety
- Organization
- Planning
- Leadership
- Teaching and learning
- Nutrition
- HIV, AIDS and life skills
Each day they participants learned a new skill of our basic motor skills. In their outdoor sessions they started with a group warm up. They next completed their skills which led up to a game that put the skills all together. The session ended with a group cool-down. This also helped show the participant how they too can create their lessons at the sport facilities in their communities. The skills they were taught were:
- Landing, balance, and rotation
- Locomotion
- Catching and throwing
- Striking with hands, feet and implement
We had one day where they completed a Kids Athletics circuit set up by the volunteers, it included many of these skills.
Today was evaluation day, the participants were being assessed on the knowledge they learned and how they can set up their own Kids Athletics circuit. It’s amazing to see how much people can learn in such a short amount of time. This group did fantastic.
Our second group starts Saturday and is my final project while in Swaziland. I am excited to see what the next group has in store for us, but also don’t want my time here to be over.
