Hey Everyone!
This is my first post on the SportWORKS blog. My name is Rachel and I am writing this blog from the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association office in Mbabane, Swaziland. I arrived in Swaziland on January 15 after 3 flights and 29 hours worth of travel. I spent my first weekend sleeping off the jet-lag and familiarizing myself with the city.
Today is my second day of work.
Since arriving, I have begun working on planning the Sport Values 4 Life Festival that we are hosting in partnership with UNICEF on February 4th, 2016. The festival will be a day of sports and activities for 3000 (or so) children from 10 different primary schools in the area. We are in the process of figuring out what we need to do in the weeks leading up to the event. Today, I created an action plan for the event.
Some tasks that we still need to complete:
- Recruit 140 volunteers for the event,
- Contact the National Sport Organizations to see if they’re interested in helping out,
- Contact all of the schools to confirm their number of participants,
- and Find a caterer in Sithobela that is capable of providing enough food for the event.
Thankfully, the Facility and Event Management course I took last year prepared me for this. Well, it prepared me for this type of planning, but not for the 2-and-a-half week time-frame.
It’s a good thing I don’t get stressed easily, this is going to be fun.
Back to work now.
